Atascadero Native Garden
The demonstration garden was planted in the early ‘90’s by the Atascadero Native Tree Association. It is located at Atascadero Lake Park by the Pavilion.
The purpose of the garden is to give the public an opportunity to view a variety of native plants that do well in our temperature extremes.
There are no Mediterranean plants. A combination of native and Mediterranean can be viewed at the Atascadero Historical Society’s garden that is located across the street from the old city hall.
The garden surrounds three sides of the Pavilion and is maintained by our supporters. Many plants have identifying signs.
Over the years we have learned a lot by making the same mistakes almost everyone does. We over-planted, planted trees too large for the site and put in plants that spread and take over. The garden is, and always will be, an ever changing dynamic.
If you would like to volunteer please contact us. We usually set up a work group for a Saturday morning. The dates change depending on the condition of the garden.
